SPIELBERG (Austria) – Hannes Arch of Austria kept his Red Bull Air Race World Championship hopes alive with a sensational victory in Qualifying on Saturday. Germany’s Matthias Dolderer was second in Qualifying while Martin Sonka of the Czech Republic was third.

„So far not bad! I think I could still fly a little bit smoother. Before the last Training we changed the air intake; maybe this one is a little bit better. I can’t notice it when I’m flying but you can see the difference in the times. I also flew a better trajectory in the track, so we’re satisfied. If everything goes well then hopefully you’ll see our first podium of the year, but we’ll see.“ Said Martin.

Arch, who has won two of the seven races this year, has been unstoppable in training all week in Spielberg on a track set up on the Formula One race track. He posted the fastest training times in all three training sessions before the Qualifying. Arch won Qualifying with a track record time of 55.545 seconds while Dolderer was second with 56.509 and Sonka was third with 56.876.
